Paul McGovern joined the MVS Adult Coaching Staff in April, 1995, bringing with him a rare blend of training expertise, racing experience, and fitness knowledge (developmental and therapeutic).
Professionally, Coach McGovern is an assistant physical therapist. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Fitchburg State, and he’s a Certified Massage Therapist. In addition to his work in physical therapy, he has worked as a sports massage therapist and a personal fitness instructor.
At the 100th Boston Marathon, Coach McGovern was 84th overall, and the first Massachusetts finisher, in 2:29.
As a runner, he is best known in New England for winning the Yankee Homecoming 10 miler four times.
On the national level, he ran in the 1992 Olympic Trials Marathon, finishing 16th.
While at Fitchburg State, he was the New England Div. III 10K champion in 1980 and 1982, the 1981 Fitchburg State Athlete of the Year, and he captained their cross-country, indoor and outdoor track, and baseball teams in 1982.
